MaterCare asks medical professionals to sign Declaration of Faith

Oct. 10, 2014- In July of this year Warsaw mayor Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz announced that Professor Bogdan Chazan, a renowned doctor in Poland and head of the gynecology and obstetrics department at Holy Family hospital in Warsaw, would be dismissed from his post for refusing to perform an abortion.

Citing the Declaration of Faith (found in English above), Prof. Chazan stated in an interview, “When—as requested by the patient—I put in writing my refusal based on conscientious objection, I wrote honestly why I didn’t agree to an abortion in my hospital.” Chazan refused the abortion after the 24th week ended because of conscientious objection, and instead offered her complete care and hospice for the baby. As part of this objection, Chazan referred to a document entitled the Declaration of Faith signed by over 4,500 polish doctors, including himself.

The “Declaration of Faith” (found in its original polish here: http://www.deklaracja-wiary.pl/), clearly states that its signatories consider abortion, birth control, in vitro fertilization and euthanasia as being against their faith. The declaration signatories also "recognize the primacy of God's law over human law" and see the need to "counter the imposed, anti-human ideologies of contemporary civilization.” Poland's Catholic Church has voiced its support for those medical professionals who have signed the declaration.

Now translated into English by MaterCare International, we urge medical professionals to sign this document in solidarity with Professor Chazan and all medical professionals who have been persecuted for their faith.

If you are a medical professional, please sign the declaration below and forward this to your colleagues or forward this to someone you know.
