MARY THE MOTHER OF GOD

St. Luke tells us of the incident of the women who raised her voice in the crowd and said to Jesus, “Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you”.  In reply Jesus said “Blessed rather are those who hear the word and keep it” (Luke 11. 27-28).  Jesus’ answer was not one of disapproval of what the women had said about His Mother, as he understood more than anyone that Mary, was the complete mother, who gave Him total and unconditional love and shared intimately in His life and later intimately in His death. Jesus was, however, issuing a call to action to His Church to follow His Mothers example of love and service, which is so necessary in these difficult times.
