Fundraiser Success

Fundraiser in Support of MaterCare International's "Project Isiolo" in Kenya a success

The Dinner-Dance Fundraising Gala held for Project Isiolo was indeed successful, in every sense of the word. It holds the distinction of being the first fundraiser of its kind in support of MaterCare International.

Held on Friday, May 26, 2006, at the Regency Banquet Centre in Concord, ON, it was attended by 250 people including approximately sixty members of various CWL parish councils of the Archdiocese of Toronto and individuals from various walks of life including students, medicine, politics, business and the clergy. Many had previously never heard of MaterCare International, thus the evening was a great opportunity to educate on the work and values of MaterCare International and the need to help women in childbirth everywhere.

In addition to a very enjoyable evening of dining and dancing, attendees were honoured by an address by Dr. Robert L. Walley, founder and executive director of MaterCare International. The very unique African-Canadian entertainment group, the Ngoma Ensemble and Susubiribi Dancers were a very lively and colourful part of the evening and all were gratified by the vocal talents of local soprano, Ann Morrone.

On the financial reckoning, just under one-third of the ticket price was donated directly to Project Isiolo. As well, raffle tickets were sold and both live and silent auctions were held. The Gala has realized $14,000.00, with pledges still being made.
